"But what if I'm a shell-less turtle now, demented and devastated in equal measure, an unfreakingbelievable mess of a girl, who wants to turn the air into colors with her clarinet, and what if somewhere inside I prefer this? What if as much as I fear having death as a shadow, I'm beginning to like how it quickens the pulse, not only mine, but the pulse of the whole world." -page 144

"I am not a leprechaun!" he says, offended. "I'm a midget."
"You're a midget?" I ask, incredulous. "You're dressed like a leprechaun. And they don't call them midgets anymore, they call them 'little people.'" - page 18

PLEASE do NOT judge this book by it's cover. Of course, this cover isn't the best... and it might not be great (or is that just me?), but the contents inside it is enough for you to hold on to this book until you've finished every single word of it!!! Although... there are quite a bit of swearing in this, so I definitely don't recommend this to young readers.

Follow Friday's question this week was:
Q. Genre wars! What's your favorite genre and which book in that genre made it your favorite?
A. I have been really loving the genre of myth and paranormal. Definitely the Percy Jackson series which drew me into the whole genre of myth. What drew me in for the genre of paranormal was definitely Hex Hall! It was a wonderful book!! Read my review here.

Q. How many books are currently in your To-Be-Read (TBR) Pile?
A. I don't actually have much in my TBR pile. I have about 20 in my TBR pile. Haha. I haven't really had the chance to get new books at the bookstore or even library. And being a new blog, we haven't had any publishers or authors send us any books for review. We're getting there though :)

"Lish tried to swear------ which is always funny, because the computer won't translate it. It went something like this: "Bleep stupid bleep bleep fairies and their bleep bleep bleep obsessions. He has better stop bleep bleep bleep the bleep bleep rules or I will bleep bleep bleep the little bleeeeeeeeeeep." All in a completely robotic monotone. Awesome." -page 36

Follow Friday's question this week was:
Q. The magic book fairy pops out of your cereal box and says "you and your favorite character (from a book of course) can switch places!" Who are you going to switch with?
A. I'll have to say Aislinn from Wicked Lovely. She has two gorgeous guys that wants her. She's the queen of the summer court. And she can boss fairies around. And at the same time be able to keep her mortal life. Not to mention, she can dance and drink and be merry everyday. That definitely sounds like something that I would enjoy.

Q. Who is the one author you are dying to meet?
A. I have a bunch of authors I want to meet. Right now, the author that I can think of is Rachel Hawkins. I loved her Hex Hall series!

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr REVIEW

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
First book of the Wicked Lovely series
Release date: June 12th, 2007
Published by: Harper Teen
Format: Paperback, 328 pages
Source: Borrowed
Summary: from Goodreads
All teenagers have problems, but few of them can match those of Aislinn, who has the power to see faeries. Quite understandably, she wishes that she could share her friends' obliviousness and tries hard to avoid these invisible intruders. But one faery in particular refuses to leave her alone. Keenan the Summer King is convinced beyond all reasoning that Aislinn is the queen he has been seeking for nine centuries. What's a 21st-century girl to do when she's stalked by a suitor nobody else can see? A debut fantasy romance for the ages; superlative summer read.

Review:
To be honest, I was disappointed after reading Wicked Lovely. After reading Bitter Frost and loving it, I decided to try another book with the same genre. Fairies. Throughout reading this book, I got bored easily, and I would put it down, and was hesitant to pick it back up again.
Maybe it was my lack of knowledge for fairies and these unusual creatures, but I was lost entirely reading this book. There was just so much I needed to be filled in on. But after reading Wicked Lovely, I have learned quite a bit of information. Fairies have definitely sparked my interests as something I want to research about (I'm a total nerd). Melissa's way of writing this story was no help either in helping me understand what was happening, in fact, throughout reading the book, I kept wondering what was going on. I was a little disappointed that it wasn't written in each character's POV, but instead it was written over third person narrative. Melissa gets credit for including powerful language though.

Aislinn, the main character has the "Sight", or the ability to see fairies while other mortals don't even know fairies exist. Aislinn is one lucky girl to have not one, but two GORGEOUS guys after her, Seth, a mortal and Keenan, the Summer King. Each wanting her to themselves. Aislinn is a very courageous and bold character who isn't afraid to stand up for what she wanted (she reminds me of me!), and what she wanted was freedom, because she hated the idea of becoming a fairy. She often stood up to the Summer King himself, which made her seem even more suited to rule over the Summer court with Keenan. I have to admit that I felt bad for Keenan, having to see his "queen" be with a mortal, instead of Keenan, the one she was destined to be with! Honestly, I wouldn't blame Aislinn if she wasn't in love with Keenan though. Keenan's flirting skills are terrible with a capital T! Seth would definitely be an ideal boyfriend for any female because he was caring and supportive, and unbelievably accepting when Aislinn told him about her "Sight". Oh, the pain he had to go through for Aislinn.

The end was by far the best part. Finding out whether Aislinn was the Summer Queen, the battle between the Summer Court and the Winter Court which is ruled by Keenan's mother, Beira. How can such a heart-filled boy be born from that wretched beast? There were some pretty violent and gruesome scenes in the end, gross enough to make me scrunch my face in disgust. After reading the epilogue though, I was back to being utterly confused which made me really frustrated with this book.
So far, this series doesn't exactly seem convincing, which is why I'm not exactly anticipating to read the second book from the series, but if I come across it in the library, I'll definitely borrow it, just to found out what happens next.
For some odd reason, this book reminded me of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Rating: 3/5
Cover: 8/10
Character(s) I liked: Donia
Character(s) I disliked: Beira
First Sentence: The Summer King knelt before her. - page 1

"She held the Winter Queen's staff-- and hoped. For a moment she even believed, but then ice pierced her, filled her like shards of glass in her veins.
She screamed his name: "Keenan!"
She stumbled toward him, but he walked away, no longer glowing, no longer looking at her.
Then she was alone ---with only a wolf for companionship-- waiting to tell the next girl what a folly it was to love him, to trust him." - page 2

Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler REVIEW

Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler
Not in series
Release Date: June 1st, 2009
Published by Little, Brown Books
Format: Hardcover, 290 pages
Source: Library
Summary from Goodreads:
"Don't worry, Anna. I'll tell her, okay? Just let me think about the best way to do it."
"Okay,"
"Promise me? Promise me you won't say anything?"
"Don't worry." I laughed. "It's our secret, right?"
According to her best friend Frankie, twenty days in Zanzibar Bay is the perfect opportunity to have a summer fling, and if they meet one boy every day, there's a pretty good chance Anna will find her first summer romance. Anna lightheartedly agrees to the game, but there's something she hasn't told Frankie--she's already had that kind of romance, and it was with Frankie's older brother, Matt, just before his tragic death one year ago.
Beautifully written and emotionally honest, this is a debut novel that explores what it truly means to love someone and what it means to grieve, and ultimately, how to make the most of every single moment this world has to offer.

Review:

First off, I absolutely loved the beautiful setting the story was taking place in. Sarah described it with so much detail that I imagined myself standing there on the beach.

Anna was always the strong one. If Anna and I were to meet somewhere in real life, I think we would've become great friends. We relate to each other so much! To be honest, I'm not really the outgoing type, which is the same as Anna. And among my group of friends, I was always considered to be the strong one, or "the rock". I was amazed by how well Anna was able to cope with Matt's death. Even though she was heartbroken on the inside, she showed no signs of pain on the outside, and the guilt she must've endured because she promised to not tell Frankie about Matt's relationship with her.
I found Frankie to be obnoxious and irritating because of the way she coped with her brother's death. She didn't turn out like Anna, strong and controlled. She turned all boy crazy and obsessed about things that didn't matter. I found it idiotic of her to start the twenty boy summer challenge. I mean, what's the point of it? In fact, I think it would've been a waste of a summer to be sitting around on the beach attracting any of the male species.

I understand that the author was trying to get the main message of Anna & Frankie trying to cope with Matt's death and trying to forget. But I just couldn't help thinking that it was too repetitive. Anna writes in her journal to Matt. Frankie is looking out for new boys. What else is new?

Overall, this wouldn't be a book that I LOVED. But it was definitely enjoyable because it taught me that if I've lost someone dear to me, I shouldn't let it get in the way of me living. Of course I'll be sad, but we can't stop living.

Rating: 3/5
Cover: 4/10
Character(s) I liked: Anna, Sam, Matt
Character(s) I disliked: Frankie
First Sentence: Frankie Perino and I were lucky that day. - page 1
